Terms of Service (for grown-ups)
Last updated October 25, 2026.
These terms are an agreement between you and Hearts Invention Lab LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("Hearts Invention Lab", "we", "us"), for the Hearts Invention Lab website, the kids' invention app, our curricula and any future Lab plan. By using them, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy page. If you don't agree, please don't use them.
1. Who can have an account
- When accounts launch, only a parent or legal guardian aged 18 or older, or an adult teacher or school staff member, may create an account, sign up or pay. Children may not create accounts.
- Kids use the app through a profile set up by their grown-up. Kid profiles use a single nickname or first name only. Please never enter a child's last name, photo, school, address or other personal details.
- You are responsible for your account, your login and what happens under it.
2. The Lab plan (planned subscription)
Payments are not open yet. Nothing is charged today. When the Lab plan opens, these terms will apply, and we will update this page and the price details first.
- Monthly or yearly. One family plan unlocks the app and the full family curriculum library, which grows over time. You choose monthly or yearly billing.
- Plans. $7.99/month or $79/year (founding offer: $59 for your first year, then $79/year), plus any sales tax.
- Payments. When you buy through Lemon Squeezy, Lemon Squeezy is the seller (merchant of record) and processes payment, tax and refunds under its own buyer terms; our refund promises below still apply.
- Automatic renewal. The plan renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, at the price shown at checkout, until you cancel. You authorize us and our payment provider to charge your payment method at each renewal. At checkout we'll ask you to tick a separate box agreeing to automatic renewal, and we'll email a confirmation with these terms and how to cancel.
- Yearly renewal reminder. For yearly plans, we will email you a reminder 15 to 45 days before your renewal date, with the renewal price and how to cancel.
- Cancel anytime online. You can cancel anytime from your account, online, in a few clicks, without calling or emailing us. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Price changes. Your price stays the same for your first 12 months. After that, when your plan renews it moves to our current price for that plan. Founding members pay $59 for the first year, then the regular yearly price (currently $79/year). Before any renewal at a higher price, we will email you at least 30 days ahead with the new price, the date it starts, and how to cancel online. If you cancel before that date, you won't be charged the new price. Monthly plans: after your first 12 months, a price change applies at the first monthly billing at least 30 days after our email.
- Payment providers. Payments will be handled by a third-party payment provider (such as Lemon Squeezy, which may act as the merchant of record and collect sales tax, or Stripe). We do not store full card numbers.
3. Refunds
- New subscriptions: if you're not happy, email us within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund.
- Renewals: if a yearly plan renews and you email us within 14 days of the renewal charge without having used the plan since, we will refund that renewal. Monthly renewals are not refunded, but you can cancel anytime to stop the next one.
- Curriculum purchases (schools and teachers): because digital files are delivered right away, purchases are final, except if a file is broken or not as described; email us and we will fix it, replace it or refund it.
- Nothing in these terms limits any refund rights you have under the law.
4. Curriculum licenses
- Families (Family & Classroom License): curricula included in a family plan, or free samples, may be used and printed for the children in one home. One plan covers one household.
- Schools and teachers (School Site License): school use needs a separate school license, sold per unit, per Grade Pack, per class or per school as described at purchase. Schools can be invoiced, including by purchase order. See Schools below.
- All licenses are non-transferable. You may not resell, share publicly, post online or upload curricula to other marketplaces or AI tools. We keep all rights in our content.
Schools
School licenses are sold by quote or invoice: $24 per curriculum unit and $119 per Grade Pack (one-time, kept forever), the $149/year Classroom plan (one teacher, full library) and the $699/year Full Library. School licenses do not renew automatically; we'll send a renewal invoice. School purchase-order terms that conflict with these terms don't apply unless we sign them.
5. Submitting an invention
- Only a parent or legal guardian can send an invention, after the grown-up check and the permission box.
- Your child's invention belongs to your child. By submitting, the parent gives Hearts Invention Lab a limited, free permission to receive, store and review it for internal review only.
- We will not publish, feature or share any submission without a separate permission from the parent. We don't collect your email; to give permission, email [email protected] from your own email with the submission code and say you are the parent. If you don't, nothing is featured.
- If you give featuring permission, you grant Hearts Invention Lab LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to adapt, publish and credit the invention by first name or nickname. You may withdraw it for future uses.
- Submissions are deleted automatically after 90 days unless you give that separate permission. You can ask us to delete one sooner anytime.
- We collect no personal data about the child: no account, no location and no full name, only the single name on the blueprint. If an invention is picked, only that single name is published.
- Please don't include names, schools, towns, addresses, phone numbers, emails or photos of people.
6. Activity safety
Our app and curricula include hands-on activities. Every hands-on activity Needs a Parent: a grown-up leads it and stays with the child the whole time. Our activities are written to follow our Curriculum Safety Rules: age-appropriate materials only (no choking-size parts for kids in grades K-2; a grown-up checks for latex allergies with balloons and handles any cut pieces), and never flames or fire, candles, heating, microwaves or ovens, hot glue, chemicals or acids, loose or fruit batteries, small or neodymium magnets, knives or sharp tools used by kids, water near electricity, or kids testing on other kids. Real-world demonstrations are shown only in the app's videos or Reverse Engineer projects, not done at home.
The supervising adult is responsible for choosing whether an activity suits their child, checking materials and supervising. Activities are done at your own risk. Our app shows designs and engineering ideas for learning; the inventions in it are not instructions to build working devices.
7. Our content and marks
The app, website, art, videos and curricula are © 2026 Hearts Invention Lab LLC. Hearts Invention Lab™, Invent With Your Heart™ and Lumet™ are our trademarks. You may not copy them except as these terms allow.
8. Acceptable use
Please don't misuse the site: no attempts to break in, overload it, scrape it, or upload anything unlawful, harmful or someone else's private information.
9. Disclaimers
The app and curricula are provided "as is" and "as available". Science facts are cited to sources and checked with care, but may contain mistakes; they are for learning, not professional, medical or engineering advice. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Hearts Invention Lab LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any injury or damage that results from an activity not done as described with adult supervision. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50 if you paid nothing. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
11. Changes and ending
We may update these terms. We will post the new date here, and for important changes affecting a paid plan, we will email you at least 30 days before they apply. You can stop using our services and cancel anytime. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.
